Marie Burns

Marie is a mother of 3 and a third generation native of Huntsville whose roots run deep in our local school system, community and city. She never meets a stranger and thoroughly enjoys working with folks to maintain fitness and balance abilities as they age. She has worked in senior care for the past 6 years and has taught balance classes during that time.

She is CPR certified and is working to complete her certification as a Senior Fitness Specialist with the National Academy of Sports Medicine. Her goal is to help participants in her classes improve balance, strength, and flexibility.


Jill Chadwick


While writing an article for Shattered, Inc.’s Community Journal, Jill discovered Steady for Life's programs and was inspired to become a licensed Zumba instructor and Senior Fitness Specialist.

She is teaching Advanced Balance and Move to the Music classes at our Monrovia location.


Bonita Cothren

Monte Sano

​Bonita is in her 14th year of working as an instructor in the Kinesiology Department at UAH. Over those years she has taught Weight Training, Butts and Guts, Kickboxing, Step Aerobics, Body Sculpting and Tennis. She is also a certified personal trainer. She has trained over 250 women on the Body for Life Program during her 14 years of training. She has worked with clients from age 10 to 95, from college athletes to retired seniors and currently has a busy schedule teaching and training. Bonita loves helping people reach their fitness goals.


Karla Drummond

Mt. Zion

Karla received a degree in Nutrition and worked as a dietitian in hospital and nursing home settings prior to having a family.

She became interested in Steady for Life while looking for a solution to help her mom build strength and balance. They visited the class at our Mt. Zion location and she was hooked. Not only did her mother join the class, but Karla was the perfect fit as our new Mt. Zion instructor.

She studied the balance coursework through the National Association of Sports Medicine and received her Senior Fitness Specialist certification and CPR training. We are delighted to have her character, and kind, caring ways on the Steady for Life staff!


Sara Dull

All Saints

Sara has been an educator working with both children and adult students for over forty years, in the United States and Europe. She has been a part of our classes as a student and a teacher for two years and holds the “Ageless Grace” certification—training in senior balance and exercise and is ABLE Bodies certified. A nurturer by nature, Sara has a special relationship with all members of her class members.


Amy Farnsworth

All Saints & Valley

Amy has been an educator for over twenty years. She is certified in both Ageless Grace and Yoga Fit and also teaches at the YMCA. She genuinely enjoys working with seniors as they have fun and stay fit together. Amy teaches at two of our locations and enjoys travelling with our group.​


Susan Gilbert

Main Location

Susan has been a yoga instructor, senior fitness trainer, and personal trainer for many years. She is also a Fall Proof Certified Balance Instructor. Before retirement, she taught science in middle and high school. She has worked at Bradford Health Services, PRSM gym, and the YMCA. Susan loves the seniors in her Yoga and Balanced Body III Classes at Steady for Life. The teachers appreciate her role as Lead Instructor.


Michelle Graves


As a life-long fitness enthusiast, Michelle is passionate about the importance of movement. She currently holds a Senior Fitness Specialist certification and loves to help adults improve their strength, stamina and balance.  Her experience includes teaching swimming and water safety, balance and agility training and some personal training.  Michelle's classes are lively and fun and she loves to see her students discover the joy in improved movement. When not teaching classes, you will most often find Michelle rowing a racing shell on the Tennessee River.


Chris Irrgang


We welcome Chris Irrgang to our SFL staff! She is the new Yoga/Balance instructor at our Monrovia class. Her passion for Yoga began nine years ago. In 2013, she received her Yoga certification and has taught in various gyms and studios in the area. To further her education, she completed the 200-hour certification program with Yoga Dharma of Huntsville and is working on the next level. Our 50+ Steady for Life Yoga/Balance class will enjoy the practice she has created for you!

Sheila Levenhagen

Main Location

Sheila has had a passion for health and fitness for almost 30 years. She has been certified for water fitness through AFAA, the Arthritis Foundation's fitness program and Ageless Grace. She holds a current certification through YogaFit and a NASM Senior Specialization certificate. Sheila believes in life-long learning and continues to grow her knowledge of all over well-being with regards to her students and family. Her Balanced Body II classes are designed to improve balance, increase stamina, strength, flexibility and cognitive awareness. Sheila's classes are known to be engaging with varying routines/methods and FUN.​


Anita Khuti

Anita has been a Yoga student for 3 years. This past spring she obtained her Yoga teaching certification from YogaFit and her CPR training. She also teaches at the YMCA. Her beautiful accent hails from England where she was raised and educated. Anita takes pride in her work and loves knowing she is helping others build confidence and strength.


Debra Wade

Hampton Cove

Debra's goal for her class is to improve breathing, balance, flexibility, strength and movement. She is a certified Pilates instructor, Yamuna Body Rolling practitioner, and a certified RedCord specialist. She also has a senior fitness specialist certification. Debra has been teaching Pilates for the past 20 years and was a Pilates Studio owner in Huntsville for 10 years. She teaches Pilates at southeast YMCA and Core Connection Pilates in Huntsville.


Shawna Wiggins

Downtown/Holmes St. & Main Location

Shawna has been involved with fitness and outdoor activities her entire life. She was inspired to become an instructor while participating in Steady for Life's Gentle Yoga classes. She finds working with seniors especially rewarding. Shawna is a certified Senior Fitness Specialist with the National Academy of Sports Medicine and is certified in CPR.


Kim Davis

Executive Director

Kim’s 20-year career hs been in Healthcare Marketing with her focus and passion being the senior-aged adults. She enjoys assembling a dynamite team of balance instructors and seeing the class participants progress and become more confident in their everyday living. “As we all work toward preventing falls, life-long friendships have been made as an extra benefit to our program.”​
