Brenda Devers


Brenda has been an outdoor and exercise enthusiast her entire live, sharing this with her children and grandchildren. Some of her favorites are gardening, golfing, dancing, yoga and basically all kinds of exercise. As relatives aged, she has developed a desire to be of service to them and her “mature-age” friends. Completing her Active Aging Certification was the next step as she helped launch Steady for Life in Scottsboro. Brenda says, “I love everyone who participates in our SFL classes. I’ve enjoyed seeing our student’s progress and our weekly time together to talk, laugh and lift one another up.


Amy Farnsworth

Main Location and Valley

Amy has been an educator for over twenty years. She is certified in both Ageless Grace and Yoga Fit and also teaches at the YMCA. She genuinely enjoys working with seniors as they have fun and stay fit together. Amy teaches at two of our locations and enjoys travelling with our group.​


Beth Flatt

Main Location

Beth grew up in Mississippi where fitness and exercise was an important part of her life. Her game was tennis. She has recently completed the Senior Fitness Specialty training through National Association of Sports Medicine, as well as her CPR training. She is excited to be part of our Steady for Life mission of helping others stay fit and balanced….while having fun. She is married to Dr. James Flatt and they have 2 sons.


Helen Ford

Main Location, Golmes Street-Downtown, and New Market

Helen worked with the Madison County Sheriff Department for 30 years. After retirement, she was employed with Home Instead Senior Care for three years, as a Caregiver. During that time, her clients attended Steady for Life classes 3 times per week. Besides enjoying the classes herself, she volunteered as a class helper. Helen is passionate about exercise, fitness, balance and nutrition. We are glad she has studied to become a certified senior group fitness instructor and desires to help others reached their goals.


Sarah Harper

First Baptist

Sarah moved to Huntsville from Baltimore, MD March of 2021. She is a 200-hr Registered Yoga instructor and Registered Dietitian. She continues to teach yoga and works as a part time dietitian at the Madison YMCA. After working in nursing homes for 5 years in Baltimore, she wanted to continue working with seniors in the community. When she heard about steady for life from one of her yoga students, she knew she wanted to become a Gentle Yoga and Balance Instructor with SFL.

In Sarah’s free time, if she’s not in her kitchen cooking up something yummy, she’s outside hiking, running, gardening, or walking her new puppy Huey.


Carla Huggins

Monte Sano

Carla, a native of Huntsville was a former jazzercise instructor, is an avid line dancer and takes SFL classes herself because she believes in the benefits.  She is 72 years old and doing all the right things to keep from becoming a fall risk.  She is excited to share the things she has learned training at SFL, with you!

In her personal life, she is a mom & grandmother, devoted to God and loves yard work and traveling.  You will find her on ALL the Steady for Life trips.  So come join the fun with us and experience new things!


Chris Irrgang


Chris is the awesome Yoga instructor at our Monrovia location. Her passion for Yoga began nine years ago. In 2013, she received her Yoga certification and has taught in various gyms and studios in the area. To further her education, she completed a 500-hour Yoga certification program. Our 50+ Steady for Life Yoga/Balance class will enjoy the practice she has created for you!

Karleen Killen

Monte Sano

Karleen recently moved from southern California to Huntsville. She has been practicing Yoga for over 15 years and became a certified 200-hour Yoga instructor in 2016. Karleen continues to study Yoga through participation in classes, workshops and retreats. She is excited to share the many benefits with others in a fun way. She also has a Balance Certification from National Association of Sports Medicine.


Amanda Reynolds

Main Location

Fitness has always been a passion for Amanda. Cheerleading and gymnastics were a part of her life through college, and now she finds joy in leading fitness classes. She received her training through Revelation Wellness. Amanda has two young daughters and is married to Andrew Reynolds. Their family is instrumental in helping out with the local program for addiction recovery His Way, as well as the women's program Rediscovery. We are excited to have Amanda on our Steady for Life team!


Jill Russell

Valley and Scottsboro

After retiring from a 20-year career with the Alabama Department of Mental Health, staying active and healthy became a priority for Jill. She learned about Steady for Life through the travel program. After visiting balance classes, she knew Steady for Life was a much-needed program for her and others in her community (Scottsboro).  She became certified as a Senior Fitness Specialist through The American Sports and Fitness Association. In addition to helping instructors in our Huntsville locations, she looks forward to helping Steady for Life expand into Jackson County and helping her friends and neighbors with their fitness goals.


Britney Shoemaker

Main Location

Britney took her dive into the fitness community in 2011. She is a personal trainer, group fitness instructor, Southeast regional captain for Revelation Wellness, fitness facilitator for her church, and cofounder of Reckless Reclamation. Another of Britney’s passions is providing various classes to communities that wouldn’t otherwise receive it such as foster homes, the Boys and Girls Club, and a local women’s transitional living home. We are so happy to have her join our Steady for Life family as a balance & fitness instructor.


Donna Sisk


A retired elementary school teacher and curriculum specialist, Donna comes to us with 38 years of experience as an educator and leader in Madison County and Huntsville City Schools. Throughout her career, Donna has enjoyed working with children and teachers alike, but has also come to enjoy working with mature adults since her retirement. Formerly a water aerobics instructor, she received her foundational line dance instruction from Mrs. Judy Graf.
She currently has the privilege of serving as a line dance instructor to the adults at Willowbrook Baptist Church.

Donna has always had a passion for sharing with others the things that add joy to her life, and line dancing is no exception! She hopes those who join her class will reap many benefits for their bodies and minds as the class enjoys dancing together!


Debra Wade

Hampton Cove

Debra's goal for her class is to improve breathing, balance, flexibility, strength and movement. She is a certified Pilates instructor, Yamuna Body Rolling practitioner, and a certified RedCord specialist. She also has a senior fitness specialist certification. Debra has been teaching Pilates for the past 20 years and was a Pilates Studio owner in Huntsville for 10 years. Debra has been our Hampton Cove/Owens Cross Roads Balance instructor for 5 years. Her students have really flourished under her guidance.


Fred Walker

Main Location

Fred is an Alabama A&M Cum Laude graduate with a degree in Music Business. His percussion training began at the age of 4, and he is classically trained in piano, self-taught on the acoustic and electric guitars, and experienced in cello. He has been an integral part of the Huntsville Community Drum Line since 2010, and has extensive experience teaching, mentoring, and leading students. Fred teaches private lessons, is the pianist for his local church, drummer for the jazz group DaVybe, and music producer/promotor of The Shed256. He and his wife, Brittani, have a 3 year-old daughter. We are so excited to have him teaching our SFL Cardio Drumming class.


Diane Wood

First Baptist

Born in Mobile, Diane has lived in upstate New York, Hawaii, Trinidad, New Jersey, Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, Auburn, and Atlanta. She worked in health care for 40 years and became an ordained minister in 2008. After bringing her mother to Steady for Life classes, she knew this was where she was being led to serve next. Diane completed her Senior Fitness Specialist certification and will begin teaching Steady for Life classes after the first of the year. Also, in her retirement she enjoys her hobbies of baton twirling and fostering cats for a local rescue.


Paula Williams

Assistant Director; Main, Meridianville, and Mount Zion

Paula’s love for fitness began when she was 8 years old working out with her mom in the family living room to Jane Fonda albums. As a child and teenager, she was constantly doing something...ballet, tap, jazz, gymnastics, racquet ball, softball, track, majorette, cheerleading. That love for fitness carried through to her young adult years when she got her first “real” fitness job as a step aerobics instructor. Since that job over 25 years ago, she has taught pump, hip hop, tae-bo, water aerobics, Zumba and PiYO, to name a few. Currently, she is a certified group exercise instructor, Zumba Instructor, Personal Trainer, PiYO Live Instructor, and a BeachBody Coach.


Kim Davis

Executive Director

Kim’s 25-year career has been in Healthcare Marketing with her focus and passion being the senior-aged adults. She enjoys assembling a dynamite team of balance instructors and seeing the class participants progress and become more confident in their everyday living. “As we all work toward preventing falls, life-long friendships have been made as an extra benefit to our program.”​
